Dusty Springfield – Summer’s Over

Although Mary Isobel Catherine Bernadette O’Brien a.k.a. Dusty Springfield was one of the most prominent blue-eyed soul singers of the 60s and one of Britain’s most recognized singers, interest in her among the younger generation seems only to have picked up once Son Of A Preacher Man was included in the film Pulp Fiction (1994).

Summer’s Over is a track which was included as one of several bonus tracks on the 1997 re-issue of Dusty’s debut album A Girl Called Dusty (1964), originally a B-side. A very nice tune and it clearly has that Quentin Tarantino-film feeling, leading to the inevitable conclusion that Quentin in fact has discovered and brought back a lot of good music in his films over the last 20 years or so, music which we to some extent relate to his movies rather than the time period they are actually from.

Dusty is an inspiration for so many people and her music lives on! Her voice is so unique and she helped pave the way for other English bands such as Hermans Hermits, The Animal, The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, The Kinks and the Who. Great article!
